Reflections (what I learned so far)

I believe that every language has its own beauty in its way which many often decieve.

After getting to know what language arts is about, I suddenly realise how special English is. My language arts teacher, Mr Erik Lundberg, has certainly made a great impact on me. He made me realise that English isn't all about the boring grammer, the tough comprehensions we do etc. We need to grasp the point of language arts - the ability to love English. My teacher made me feel in this way and thus eases our pressure of language arts tests. Of course this is proven by the fact that if you love something, you will do well in it.

Another thing I learned was to improve my poetry. When I was in primary school, I used to write poems in my poetry book just to express the feelings and thoughts that were going through my mind. After a couple of lessons, I learned how to analyze poems and therefore write better poems. I love writing poems and is grateful that Language Arts in Hwa Chong has given me the opportunity to enchance my love for poetry.

I appreciate the poem as it was written well. It tell the story of the author's family. The poem emphasizes on what farming was all about and therefore makes us feel frustrated due to the fact that the author did not have the skills to follow his father's footsteps. The one thing that I liked about this poem was that it makes us read again and again. It keeps our mind thinking on what the poem is about, how does the pen relate to this poem and why they emphasized on farming etc.

Life Poem

We're breakin the wind,
cause it ain't gonna guide us through.
Don't ever do a sin,
and get out before the waves crashes,
'cause your in the shadow of doubt.

I wrote this poem to express what I feel about life. We should work hard for our goals and succeed in life. The word 'wind' on the first line is just like life. There are ups and downs in life, and the wind blows at any direction. We have to step up with the challenges and be independent. It is the will that shatters the thoughts of the mind.

The second half of the poems tell us that we should not do bad to our world, and thus think before you act. The law isn't always right, but we have to alter the path the water goes in the river of life.

Poem about primary school life

I visioned those memories,
with all the voices mistaken.
It tears down my pride,
and keeps me all night awaken.

I remember those days,
full of flaws and sadness.
Crying just didn't help,
and I was all alone helpless.

I was all alone in the dark,
no-one even helped.
I was all stuck,
and the world of mine just seemed so small.

My life hasn't even reached a fraction,
yet I felt like the world was falling apart.
I constantly wrote in my lactrum,
and expressed my feelings in it.

Then, my life took a major turn.
Words couldn't simply describe it.
The river of my life had shown,
and it flowed fast, really fast.

Fire ignited my heart,
and ignited my soul.
Just like a draft,
I was soon getting close to the right picture of life.

It was the start of a whole new journey,
the start of a teenager life.
I saw saw the light coming out of the darkness,
and felt a sense to strive.

It was the time to shatter those old memories,
a huge shoutout to the world.
You could say I was a dreamer,
but now those thoughts of yours can now be hurled.

Those impossible dreams were like candle lights that lit,
drowning out all those fears.
Embracing the future,
It just felt so right.

Time will tell.
The future awaits me.
But I know for now,
I am set free.
Bleed It Out

Verse 1)

Yea here we go for the hundredth time,
Hand grenade pins in every line,
Throw 'em up and let something shine.
Going out of my freaking mind.
Filthy mouth, no excuse.
Find a new place to hang this noose.
String me up from atop these roofs.
Knot it tight so I won't get loose.
Truth is you can stop and stare,
bled myself out and no one cares.
Dug a trench out, laid down there
With a shovel up out to reach somewhere.
Yeah someone pour it in,
Make it a dirt dance floor again.
Say your prayers and stomp it out,
When they bring that chorus in.

1)Metaphors are used in this verse as it brings in some unusual elements which has an indepth meaning to the whole verse. I believe this verse has a double meaning. One in which that implies that one cannot escape the dangers in life and the other about violence or death.
Most lines like ' with a shovel up out to reach somewhere' and ' string me up from atop these roofs ' shows death. There are many dangers and thus it could lead to death. Some of the lines talk about war, just like the first four lines in the verse. I'm guessing that these four lines are about the politicants trying to solved problem ongoing in their countries. I assume they are under tremendous stress and are going insane.
I am guessing the reason why the songwriter wrote using Metaphors is that he wanted to add a twist to this verse. He wanted to make it seem extraordinary so poeple would have different thoughts about it. Some people would have thought this song was made without any meaning, and some pondered on what the song was even talking about.

2)I like this whole verse as I find it a very special one. Normall poets would have written their poems in an emotional or an expressive way. However, this verse had random elements in it which makes it really hard for people to understand what the lyrics mean. The writer of this song would certainly have thought in a frustrated manner and wrote all the thoughts that went through his mind. Therefore, I like this verse due to the fact that it is unique.

Term 2 Tests!

So far, I have taken two test this term. One was about writing a letter of request and the other was about answering two questions regarding an extract from the story 'Lamb to the Slaughter'. I did both tests with difficulty as I struggled in some point of time while doing both of them. However , I still believe I would be able to score well for my term 2 tests. I still remember saying that I would study harder in term 2 than term 1. I really hope my marks would show my improvement. On top of that, I did a comprehension which was 20% of our total score to determine our grade in term 2. Mr Lundberg, my english teacher, went through some of the answers and I have lost 3 marks so far. This is an improvement I have seen in my comprehension. I hope my second part of the paper would also give my high marks so that I would get A1 for this assignment.

Look out for more of my blog posts in the near future :)

Urbanisation In Thul

The government of India has decided to build factories in the sleepy and not well-known Thul. The people living in Thul mainly fish and farm for a living. As factories are going to be built there, the people in Thul will suffer a lot in their stuggle to survive. Therefore, they are complaining and wants to oppose to the plan. Many children living in the Thul village claims that they would be able to find a job as a worker in a factory. The truth is- Engineers, mechanics and many other experienced workers would have already been employed by the time the factories are up in Thul.

Not only that, building factories in Thul would also affect the environment there. Sulphur dioxide, dust and ammonia will be scattered cross Thul. Birds would die due to the fact that they breathe in the harmful pollutants in the air. Acid rain would also occur when the rain mixes with the chemicals in the air. People who come into contact with acid rain might fall ill and become sick.

It would also cause water effects and air effects. Poisonous chemicals would be released into the seawater and will pollut it.Villagers that consume the fishes which had consumed poison would be contaminated. Due to acid rain or pollutants, the soil in Thul would become infertile and thus aggriculture would not be able to take place. People would not be able to eat and would suffer of starvation.

Despite all this, the young generation in Thul still remain optimistic. They still hope that they would find jobs working in the factory. However, some others have decided to go to Bombay to work. But it is a matter of fact whether Bombay has enough space to accommodate more people from Thul.

Time is running out. The people living in Thul had better make a move before it is too late.

Ambient Music

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lkbiB0QfU3s

This song is In The End by my favourite band Linkin Park. The song in the video is in piano version and I believe that it is a good piece of music of the ambient of any of the first five chapters in Village By the Sea. Well most people would have chosen to find a piece of music about the sounds of nature, like the sounds of the waves of the sea,the wind and so on an so forth. However, I have decided to choose this song to express the hardships that Hari and Lila faced while supporting their family. The song has a higher pitch and therefore higher notes are being used. The high pitch of the song could mean that Thul is a calm and beautiful place to live in.
If you were to search the original version of In The End, you would realise that the lyrics of the song is about trying your very best but not being able to succeed. I believe this is what Hari and Lila felt when they were struggling to support their own family.

When Pinoto was poisoned: I chose this picture to show how Lila reacted as she was worried for it and was sad about it. She could not accept the fact that Pinto was poisoned as she was close to it and did not want it to die.

When the medicine-man arrived to help her mother: Lila was worried about her mother. The medicine-man might not have cured her mother if her illness was incurable. Even so, her mother could have fallen ill again after being cured by him. I have chosen this picture as it a good way to show how worried Lila was then.

When she offered flowers to the sacred rock in the sea: Lila was praying hard to god as shown in the picture of a young woman praying at the beach. I have chosen this picture as it show how much Lila really meant when she was praying to god.

Me: Good morning Hari. I would like to conduct an interview on you.

Hari: Okay, sure.

Me: So Hari, how's the situation in Thul? Is everything fine there?

Hari: Yeah it's okay. However, I'm having some problems with my family. Well, my Dad is permanently drunk while my Mum has fallen ill. Therefore, my sister and I have to support the family.

Me: Oh, I see. Could you share with us some of your problem you are facing?

Hari: Well I am really worried because the amount of money my sister and I are earning are too little. I hope to find a better job in Bombay. It is a big city and there are many job offers there. Then, I can use the money for the family.

Me: Well, I do hope your family problem will be resolved. I'm really excited for you.

Hari: Thank you. But I'm kinda depressed. If I'm not able to earn enough money to support the family, it would be a big disgrace. I'm really angry with my Dad for betraying the family. If he wasn't drunk, life would have been easier for all of us. But I guess life goes on. It's just like a roller coaster, full of ups and downs. I can be independent through working at a young age.

Me: Good for you! It's good that you can be independent. Unfortunately, that's all the time we have. Thank you

Hari: No problem.

Journal Entry Of Hari

Dear diary,

I'm really struggling with life now. With my Mom ill and my Dad permanently ill, I'm left with my older sis to support the family. Well, I've sacrificed a lot. I dropped out of school, and went to work in the field. Sometimes I would even go fishing and try my luck to catch fishes. Sigh.. How I wish life was better.
It's all my Dad's fault. He shouldn't have stopped work just for alchohol. It's kinda sad. All I ever want is to just have happiness, but I guess it will never happen. If I could just live a life from a new perspective, everything would be fine.
Well, I'm kinda thinking of going to Bombay to get a job. There are so many jobs that await me to choose. XD I hope to go there and earn more money to support my family. Hopefully turn my life the other way round. I would be able to have a better life, a better future. But time will tell. I'll just have to wait for the right opportunity to get there. I'm really excited. I finally get to see how town is like! :)
Anyways that's all I got to say. I can't wait to tell you what will happen in the future :) Byes!

Best Wishes,
Hari

Term 2 first post :)

Heys, long time no see! Anyways my life in Hwa Chong Institution is starting to get messy. I had to do more homework, more reading and even more tests. I paid much more attention in class compared to term 1 as I wanted to improve my grades this term. I'll just move step by step to my goal and see how it goes :) I was told that in term 2, everything gets harder and my grades would most likely fall. But who cares? I'm determined to work harder even though the going gets tough. Well term 2, here I come ! XD

The Lady or the Tiger? (Ending) -Reason

The reason why I chose this ending was to give the story a twist. I wanted to show the readers how badly emotions could affect you. I made the young man die as I wanted to princess to feel emotionly painful. The princess eventually killed the king as she couldn't forgive him for what he had done. I personally think that sad endings make a bigger impact on the readers as it would keep them thinking about the story over and over again. That is why I chose a sad ending and I wanted the readers to learn something from this ending. Never underestimate the power of love.

The Lady or the Tiger? (Ending)

The young man's heart was thumping fast. Two doors, one choice. The Lady or the Tiger. He thought hard for a moment and followed his insticts. Finally, the right door was chosen.

The young man held his breath. Fate was coming. To his horror, a loud roar was heard. "A tiger! Oh no!" the young man exclaimed. It charged out of the door, staring at its prey. The young man was shocked beyond words. Death was all he could think of. 'I'm sorry..' The young man closed his eyes, for his life was over.

"No!!" The princess broke down into tears as she watched the young man being eaten alive. She couldn't take it anymore, for the love of her life was gone forever. The princess let her emotions take control of her. She ran up to the king, whipped out a knife and stabbed it in the kings throat. Then she pulled out the knife and did the same to herelf. She dropped dead to the ground, as she had commited suicide.

Everyone was stunned. From what seemed to be an entertainment, turned out to be a horrific incident. No-one had expected this to happen. Very soon, a command was made to tell everyone to leave the arena then. When everyone had disappeared, the whole area was cleared up. Everyone couldn't imagine the king dead. No-one could deny the fact that it was love that had caused it all.

Journal according to detective

Dear Diary,

Things haven't been doing well lately. Today, we had another crime to solve: a case of a murder. Mrs Maloney called the policestation one night reporting about her husbands death.

We arrived at their house and saw Patrick, her husband, lying on the ground dead. The whole room was in a mess and we checked around the place to find any clues. I questioned her about what happened and she told me that when she came back from the grocery shop, she saw her husband dead on the floor. We suspected that he was killed by a blunt weapon as it looked as if he suffered a blow at the back of his head. We then started searching for the weapon, but to no avail. I was suspecting something was wrong with what Mrs Maloney said as it didn't sound right. She could have ben lying. However, I just continued my search again.

As we were tired after trying to search for clues, Mrs Maloney offered all of us a lamb to eat as she knew we were hungry at suppertime. We ate it and discussed about the whole case. Everyone knew there was something wrong with the case but couldn't figure it out. What was the weapon? Who was the murderer? Thoughts raced through my mind.

After eating the lamb, I stayed back to check around the house. I gave up finding after three solid hours and went back home. I really hope the case would be solved tomorrow when I go back there again.

The Language Arts test

Well not long ago, I took the Language Arts test. It was really tough. We were allowed to choose one out of the two composition pictures to write out a fiction story. One illustrated a scence of a spooky house. The other one was a scence of an eye. I wrote about the eye and it was about getting injured. The character's brother sacrificed his life to save him. I think I wrote too much for the test as the maximum number of words you can write is five hundred words. After the test, I was feeling bad as I think I wrote out of point. I really hope I can do well for the test as it is 80% of my language arts term 1 grade.

Lamb to the Slaughter

Dear Diary,
Today was a sad day. My husband had told me that he wanted to leave me for another woman. I was so heartbroken and angry that i used the leg of a lamb to kill him. I couldn't believe what i had done. I planned an alibi and called the police. he police didn't suspect a thing and left the scene after they had consumed the lamb. I was grinning from ear to ear as the case was unsolved and I was smart enough to trick the policemen. Anyway, even if i had been caught by the police, the chances of being prosecuted is low. I think this case is most likely counted as a man slaughter as I couldn't control myself and therefore killed him. I didn't feel bad about what i had done. He deserved it. I can't believe he cheated me and I can never forgive him. Right now, all I can do is just try to forget the whole incident and start a new life.
With regards,
Mrs Maloney
