Racism questions

In your opinion, has enough been done to combat racism? How do you think racism can be dealt with in Singapore?

I personally feel that we need to have more initiative as the world hasn't done enough to combat racism. Statitics show that people out there in this world are still being bullied due to racism. Racism is a perception, not a problem. We can't just go out there and change what people are thinking about. Imagine me asking you what your favourite colour is, and afterwards I told you that you had to choose a different colour. It's a problem that is hard to resolve. Therefore, it has been a struggle for governments all over the world to even stop racism.

I think that racism is hard to stop. However, it is always good to try and teach the citizens of Singapore about being racist. I believe that most Singaporeans out there are racist but don't show or say it out. The government should carry out some initiatives and teach the citizens not to carry out racist activities. Also, it is to our advantage if Singapore educates children from young so when they grow up their perceptions may change. For example, it's no doubt that someone who goes to the seaside everyday would love the colour blue. It all starts in the 21 century. On top of that, Singapore is a multi-racial country. If all of us get racist, what would Singapore become of? I hope we would make a difference to the world. People out there in this world are suffering for no good reason.

Reflections on doing CIP on founders day 2011

This year, our class had to go to Jurong Point to do Community Service. We had to spend time with the elderly for two whole hours. For the first hour, we treated them to breakfast. In the next hour, we decided to bring them around the shopping centre and chat to them. It was a frutiful experience for me and I enjoyed myself in the process. Terrence and I had to take care of Mr Tok, who sometimes can get irritated easily. We managed to handle him and it was a huge relief that he did not get frustrated or so. After talking to him, I realised that we should cherish our lives even better. I hope we can come back to this place again to do CIP. It is an honour to serve the community and I would do my very best to help the elderly.
